The Only Resolution Worth Making: Becoming the Quiet
with details for this months free online workshop, Sunday January 11th
The year started with a message from a coaching client, who signed off her email with, “Maybe the fact that I don’t have perfect goals laid out by the first of the year is actually a sign of progress?”
Yes I thought, she is really onto it now.
When we began working together in March, she came to me saying on paper she had a great job, great salary, great pension, but that she didn’t like the work culture, felt trapped by the benefits, stuck in a loop telling herself that it was a good job, but inside still had the question, what else? What else could the next 10-15 years of her working life look like? She didn’t have the vision or the answer, but she was open to explore a different way forward to traditional business coaching to see another future.
Just before Christmas, she emailed me: the CEO of an organization like the UN had just followed her LinkedIn page. This was the ‘pinch me moment’ that showed we were now in the flow of the work we had begun several months earlier.
How had this happened?
We had created the space, first through meditation and movement, then outside of her work with a new approach to networking - one that would support an introvert, let go of formulaic business ideals, and connect her with groups, people and organizations she felt genuinely excited and inspired to connect with, where she could share her knowledge and add value to wider conversations that weren't happening in her workspace. Conversations started flowing, opportunities began to arrive, and none of them were created by her going after them. Everything was effortless. And as this shift happened and she began to trust the process, I started receiving emails about all the new things she was getting involved with, the travel plans she was making. There was a real sense of joy and enthusiasm to the potential of what could arrive for her.
In essence what we had done together was abandon performance for aligned action. When you take the pressure off from striving, what you are grasping for will come of its own accord.
This is the heart of yogic philosophy and what guides me in all aspects of my work. Whether I’m supporting someone in their career, on their mat, or at their table, the approach is the same. It’s why I don’t preach Yoga will make you thin in 21 days. We are not practicing for external value, we are practicing to create space. This means quietening the mind, stepping back from taking action and steadying yourself into what brings you joy.
Yoga then becomes a way of being, food becomes emotional and physical balance and not a diet, and its why you no longer need a resolution to start your year. Instead life becomes a year round revolutionary shift in mindset, that provides greater peace, more time, less mental noise, greater self-compassion and none of this push and pull that uses up an enormous amount of energy.
Creating the quiet to see things differently takes trust and is guided by asking the questions that will reveal what you truly want, what you’re afraid of asking for and the beliefs that are stopping you from creating a new vision.
We don’t make a plan, but things will change and the solutions that arrive are often so much more interesting than what we are capable of creating on our own.
This month, I'm offering several ways to begin creating this space in your life - from a free workshop to guide you through the process, to embodied practices that support this quiet revolutionary shift.

Can't make it Sunday since it's middle of the night California time but it sounds like a wonderful workshop. It resonates with something from my horoscope today that I'm sitting with ...
With Aries involved, many people learned: “I have to be strong, capable, moving, initiating — or I’m not safe.”
Chiron conjunct your Sun asks: “What if strength includes tenderness, limits, and slowness?”
